The Devil Wears Prada 2 press tour is moving at anything but a leisurely pace. Over the last few weeks, stars Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway—who are reprising their roles as commanding fashion editor Miranda Priestly and out-of-place former assistant Andy Sachs—have spread word of the upcoming sequel across the globe, hopping from Mexico City to Seoul in an array of brand-new, runway-ready outfits.
The media blitz will culminate in a finale on Monday night at the New York premiere—an event sure to attract big names in both fashion and entertainment. But the initial premiere was a different scenario, and promoting The Devil Wears Prada was a much more modest endeavor when it debuted 20 years ago. While red carpets today are significantly more elaborate than they were back in 2006, there might have been another reason behind the more subdued first movie. “Well, everyone was intimidated by Anna on the first one, so we couldn’t find any clothes,” Streep revealed to Anna Wintour and Greta Gerwig in Vogue’s May 2026 cover story.
The film initially premiered at the 2006 L.A. Film Festival. Hathaway attended in a strapless yellow satin dress from Prada (naturally), while Connie Britton, Jeff Goldblum, and Parker Posey also graced the carpet. The team showcased the film at international festivals as well, with Hathaway, Streep, and Stanley Tucci attending Venice and Deauville following the premiere.
But the most significant excitement emerged from New York, where the cast gathered for a grand celebration. Hathaway donned a scarlet gown with a deep cowl neckline, while Emily Blunt chose a knee-length magenta dress featuring a lace-trimmed neckline and a matching sash.
