It’s not every day that we spot Amal Clooney, but the human rights attorney (and all-around fashion icon) was seen on the streets of New York City yesterday. The event? She was there to support her husband George Clooney at the 51st Chaplin Award Gala, held at Lincoln Center in New York. The actor received an award for his contributions to cinema—but Amal’s red carpet attire for the event deserved recognition itself.
Typically fond of vintage and designer pieces, Clooney stepped onto the red carpet in a gown fresh from the runway. The magenta off-the-shoulder mini dress, featuring a voluminous top and a dramatic train, was from Balenciaga designer Pierpaolo Piccioli’s spring 2026 collection. It was an ideal spring choice, from the lively color to the shorter hemline. (Amal generally favors an elegant floor-length dress.) To add a statement finish, Clooney accessorized the outfit with gold items, including a Begum Khan clutch and sharp metallic heels.

Her choice to wear a prominent spring runway piece was a definite style change for Clooney, who usually opts for rare, unique pieces from the archives. While she often wears elegant John Galliano slip dresses on the red carpet, she has also donned archival pieces from Alexander McQueen, Jean-Louis Scherrer, and Stéphane Rolland. This latest New York appearance has us pondering: Will Clooney remain in the city to attend the 2026 Met Gala on Monday? Her last attendance was in 2018, when she graced the Met steps in a sweeping Richard Quinn corset top and train ensemble, paired with trousers.
