For Moist Leg, artifice and the unknown encourage their authenticity—although watching horror movies collectively in between collaborative writing classes didn’t harm, both. Behind the uncanny, creepy, Cronenberg-esque visuals, nevertheless, is a file that feels open-hearted and weak. The band’s love songs are freaky and full-bodied, blissful and bedlam, gross and engrossing. “Jennifer’s Physique” is a music about obsessive, all-consuming love—the Megan Fox-starring movie’s queer subtext now looms bigger for Teasdale. The aching “Davina McCall”—named after the British TV presenter and pop-culture treasure—is in regards to the lovely banality of relationships. (McCall, for the file, is a licensed Moist Lag fan, and was delighted to be namechecked.) “Pillow Speak” may be very, very attractive, and “Liquidize” will get gooey a couple of lover with extra confronting, wacky lyricism. “So many creatures within the fucking world, how might I be your one? Be your marshmallow worm?” Teasdale sings, her vocals oscillating from nearly baritone booms to a sinewy falsetto and a vicious spitfire.
Whereas Teasdale has been invigorated by discovering her queerness in tandem with the file, Chambers writes her personal love songs about fellow bandmate and companion Mobaraki—one is from his perspective, addressed to her.
I catch Teasdale within the days after Glastonbury; she managed to remain for a couple of days and catch associates and friends like Katy J. Pearson play. “We barely ever actually get to remain at festivals anymore, and we’ve bought 4 this week,” she says. “You overlook what it’s wish to be within the crowd. I believe it’s actually essential to go and get caught in.”
Touring once more has “breathed recent air into the primary album,” she provides. “And persons are already so supportive of the brand new stuff—I like seeing them already figuring out the lyrics, or those that don’t simply, like, making the vowel sounds to sing together with us.”
Teasdale is attempting to take inventory the place she will. “The primary file was such a shock. And that is…our first time making a second file,” she says with fun. “I saved pondering, Has our luck run out? Will folks nonetheless care? We constructed up a lot from the primary album, it’s been nerve-racking. However I’ve felt the love.”
Beneath, Rhian Teasdale chats Moisturizer, making love songs, and pissing off males.
